| Site of the Month | ||
| November 2007 | Color Match 1.0 | Wow. This is an amazing effort. This program matches up thousands of paint chips allowing you to find matches across ranges, compare similar colours, pick out a colour from an RGB code, and loads of other stuff. Plus, there is a shade module that lets you work out your own three, five or even seven colour shades. Excellent. |
| August 2007 |
George Hatzopoulos | Not wishing to go overboard here, but Mr Hatzopolous has joined my (ever changing) list of top five small scale figure painters. Simply stunning work. |
| May 2007 |
Lead Adventure Forum | Everything you could want in the adventure genre - pirates, pulp, Cthulhu, cowboys, superheroes... Great site, loads of great projects being worked on. |
| April 2007 |
Painting and Modelling | A brand new free web based magazine that has made a very promising start. |
| March 2007 |
Perry Miniatures | Not the lowest profile company in the hobby, but it is easy to forget just how many superb figures they produce each year. And they do seem to get better and better. |
| February 2007 |
Showcase 20 | I think this is what was Elheim, but if it isn't, it is still rather good. Some super 20mm stuff here, mainly WWII. LINK UPDATED 22/7/07. |
| January 2007 |
Steve Dean's Painting Forum | An excellent forum for figure painters. Where else can you rub shoulders with Dean, Dallimore, Baker and the rest of the Dark Artes Coven? |
| December 2006 |
Plastic Soldier Review | I am feeling quite plastically minded this month, so why not direct you straight to one of the very best sites in the hobby. |
| November 2006 |
Little Big Man Studios | This month, a reminder of one of the best products in the hobby (assuming you paint anything pre 16th Century!). The site has recently been revised and includes all of Steve's shield designs and banners. I have skipped a month to get back in step. |
| September 2006 |
Matakishi's Tea House | I have no idea how I missed this excellent site. Difficult to categorise, but it has a ton of good stuff. Here is a man who not only sets out on projects, but he completes them as well, with lots of custom graphics. Plus he likes Ars Magica, so is clearly a mensch. |
| August 2006 |
Ian Stables | A self evident site choice. When I first heard the news I thought I didn't know Ian, although I have long admired his work for Front Rank. Now I have seen his picture, I certainly did meet him and he gave me some basing advice, freely and happily, at Salute one year. You won't read anything maudlin here or at the site, but I have to say it did hit home. Very nice site - I love the gallery effects. |
| July 2006 | Manor House Workshop | I suppose if you challenged me, I would have to say that my favourite part of the hobby is superbly realised terrain - buildings and scenery. Manor House Workshop make some lovely stuff, and their website is an inspiration. Look at this in tandem with the masters - Architectural Miniatures - and TM Terrain, and you have a feast for the eyes. Newcomer John Jenkins with his stunning samurai buildings just adds icing to the cake. |

| May 2006 | Artizan Designs | I sometimes lose track of Artizan's efforts, but they are always there steadily producing very nice figures. I almost said in the Foundry style, but they aren't any more. Some of the figures have morphed into taller, more elegant pieces and are therefore to be commended. The recent Wild West character figures are some of Mike's best work, and there are always those lovely Moors and Carolingians. With eBob's excellent horse blanks being used to good effect, things are very much getting there. And while not my thing, I know a lot of people raving about and buying the WWII range - even I like the Italians! Look out for the excellent new Pirates and Pulp ranges. |
| February 2006 | Fighting 15's | Ian Marsh runs a top notch painting service that is currently on hiatus, but he is also the UK agent for Eureka figures (and you know how highly I rate those). New in are some amazingly good 15mms and 1/600th tanks from Poland. He will also sell you Black Hat Miniatures, who have some excellent small scale sci-fi stuff, including a stunning steam walker. And he also designs rulesets. Talented chap. |
| January 2006 | Brian Phillips Figure Painting | Brian is one of the talented group of painters from North of the Border. Must be something in the water. He is, in my ever so 'umble, right up there with the very best in quality and if you get a chance to see his figures in the flesh, I think you will find them even better than the images on the site. Brian has also kindly provided a 'paint recipe' chart which will help all us lesser mortals. Nice bases too. A great start, excellent layout, and I look forward to the updates. |

New links are kept here until I get round to filing them away downstairs. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Exotic Train Models | Wow. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | First Legion | 40mm miniatures. Looking forward to the Crusaders. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Dampfpanzerwagon | Tony Harwood and his magnificent models. A blog as a blog should be. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Empire Models | More 28mm plastics. At present, just 3d renders available. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Wargames Factory | 28mm plastic Romans and Celts and more coming... Loving those Celts! |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Perry Plastics | 28mm plastic ACW. Superb. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | WarlordTM Games | 28mm plastic Romans and Celts. As of today, very coy. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Carmen Miniatures | An excellent blog, with some superb stuff - 40mm, 28mm, scratch, all sorts. |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Dr Grodbort's Rayguns | |
| 14-Apr-2008 | Litko Bases | An excellent source of pre-cut bases in hundreds of varieties, plus much more. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Terrain Warehouse | Retailer selling all sorts of useful terrain items. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | UltraWerke | Top notch 40k modelling blog with all sorts of tips. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Mountain Miniatures | Figures and terrain of very high quality. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Kampfgruppe von Abt |
Men who once played Action Man, still playing Action Man, with remarkable results. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | SixTwentyEight | Remarkable figures in 6mm. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Kingmaker Miniatures | The excellent new range of 28mm Hussites. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Alte Fritz | A new blog by an old hand. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Grand Manner | |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Horsing Around | More of those resin horse models. Some ideas at least. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | All Terrain | Some very nice ready made terrain here. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Shifting Lands | A quirky terrain site. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Giles Allison | A very good blog by an excellent painter. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Touching History | Up and coming terrain company, with books to match. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | SSWG Gallery | Loads of excellent pics. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | The Guild | The latest incarnation of the Elheim forums. I think. |
| 28-Nov-2007 | Old Glory Prints | Nothing to do with the miniatures company, just a deceptive site that has a massive range of military prints online. |
| 21-July-2007 | Models for Sale | A huge online retailer (UK) who seems to stock almost everything. |
| 21-July-2007 | Paint Chips | I really must take the time to do this. It would save me a lot of time when searching for that colour, or indeed that elusive match for French Artillery Green. Too many paints, too little time... |
| 21-July-2007 | GHQ Terrain Making | Lots of good info on making terrain, specifically for GHQ hexes, but applicable to most set ups. |
| 21-July-2007 | Two Hour Wargames | Free rules, of very good quality, from Two Hour Wargames. |
| 21-July-2007 | R J Eastland | I am on a quest. This range of figures, by R J Eastland, has apparently been discontinued. And I didn't even know they existed... I really like them, and like the painting style even more. Any clues? |
| 21-July-2007 | Marike Reimer/ Destroyer Minis |
Marike Reimer is a very popular painter, commanding large sums for each commission, and this is her site. If you check out the accompanying photo gallery you might discern why she is more popular with fanboys than, say, the average male painter in the hobby. But as she is apparently seeing ACW General Burnside, she is strictly off the market. |
| 21-July-2007 | NapoleoN | While we seem to have lost Falcata's site, I have stumbled across these excellent 20mm figures from Spain. Are they in any way related? The same company? Anyway, very nice range of figures. |
| 21-July-2007 | Nimix | An interesting range of etched brass accessories and scenery from Spain, including some excellent heraldic devices. |
| 2-May-2007 | Lead Adventure Forum | Everything you could want in the adventure genre - pirates, pulp, Cthulhu, cowboys, superheroes... Great site, loads of great projects being worked on. |
| 2-May-2007 | Sacrum Imperium | Unusual painting style, but appealing. |
| 2-May-2007 | Andrew Thomson | Link updated. |
| 2-May-2007 | Museum Miniatures | New range of 28mm Samurai, right here. How many does that make? With revolving animations, no less. |
| 2-May-2007 | Blue Moon Manufacturing | Okay, so not the greatest figures ever sculpted, but I like the Jack the Ripper set and a few others. Good value too. |
| 2-May-2007 | Pulp Miniatures | Not to be confused with Pulp Figures? Anyone know anything about this 25mm company? |
| 2-May-2007 | Gentleman's Wargame Parlour | A rather good new forum, emphasising modelling, painting and sharing tips over slanging matches and gossip with a gentlemen's club atmosphere. Check out The Queeg's alternative WWII page. You will need to subscribe to see everything - tell 'em Siggins sent you. PS Don't bother. If you don't keep up a steady stream of short and mindless posts, they kick you out for inactivity. Some club... Groucho Marx territory. The Queeg is still worth checking out, but you can do that elsewhere. |
| 2-May-2007 | Dinosaur Time | Supplier of several very nice ranges of dinosaurs, mainly European. It is up to you to find a use for them. Hint: Pulp Games. Lost Worlds. I just like Stegosaurs and Glyptodonts. |
| 3-March-2007 | Model Earth Design | Simon Harris is a talented man, and is now selling a range of excellent bases and vignettes. |
| 13-Jan-2007 | Steve Dean's Painting Forum | An excellent forum for figure painters. Where else can you rub shoulders with Dean, Dallimore, Baker and the rest of the Dark Artes Coven? |
| 13-Jan-2007 | J.A.Milton Upholstery | For all your bulk rubberised horeshair needs. Just remember that, in time, the stuff can rot. |
| 13-Dec-2006 | TerrainThralls | Another really good terrain site. Fantasy overtones, but superb craftsmanship and good ideas throughout. Some highly original projects. |
| 13-Dec-2006 | The Dice Collector | This guy has over 19,000 dice. 'Nuff said. |
| 13-Dec-2006 | eBob Miniatures | An eclectic but generally excellent range of 28mm goodies from this new company. I love the horses. |
| 28-Nov-2006 | Dan Becker | Check out the excellent terrain tips here. |
| 06-Oct-2006 | Iago: A Wargamer's Journey | Peter Palmer is one of the most interesting hobbyists around, and I have always followed his views and projects on Consimworld. Now Peter has decamped and has started his own miniatures blog, which is part of a group of related sites he runs. Peter is one of life's do-ers, and you will find a lot of activity and valid commentary here. There is also every sign of a man possessed and therefore likely to post regularly. Excellent content. |
| 06-Oct-2006 | Tim Cockrell | New painting site to me. Some very good pictures in the portfolio, especially the mediaevals. Images a bit small though. |
| 06-Oct-2006 | Kingsford Miniatures | A producer of 28mm Samurai who I had never actually heard of until last week. I have no idea if they are compatible with Perry Miniatures size wise, but nice figures. |
| 06-Oct-2006 | Scenic Express | A remarkable catalogue of scenic materials, with some superb, almost lifelike, dioramas. |
| 20-Sep-2006 | Websites as Graphs | Not really anything to do with the hobby, but just beautifully done. |
| 20-Sep-2006 | Matakishi's Tea House | I have no idea how I missed this excellent site. Difficult to categorise, but it has a ton of good stuff. Here is a man who not only sets out on projects, but he completes them as well, with lots of custom graphics. Plus he likes Ars Magica, so is clearly a mensch. |
| 20-Sep-2006 | Starship Modeller | Link repaired |
| 20-Sep-2006 | ShrimpRoll | Found him! The guy who painted those amazing Calpe Prussian cavalry. Scroll down for the Moors and Samurai as well. Wonderful stuff. |
| 20-Sep-2006 | Terragenesis | Link repaired |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Team Toulouse | A rather talented (and therefore annoying!) bunch of Frenchies who do some figures and terrain bits and bobs. Check out the Travaux section and prepare to be stunned. |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Jeremie Bonamant Teboul | Another French brushman of insufferable talent. PS something up with this site. I can't get past the splash page. |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Thierry Husser | And another! |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Pardulon | Modular buildings in 28mm. Some very nice pieces. |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Obelisk Miniatures | If you were wondering where Josef Ochmann went, here's your answer. |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Plastic Soldier Review | Link Fixed |
| 01-Sep-2006 | On the Way | Link Fixed |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Valiant Miniatures | 20mm hard plastic WWII. Yes, really. |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Shieldwall | A very nice blog, with tons of good photos. Very much a real gamer, on the ground. |
| 01-Sep-2006 | Tom Meier's Blog | One of the very best sculptors in the world now has a blog. Fascinating reading, and I love the Napoleonic caricatures. |
| 06-Aug-2006 | Allan Carrasco | Wow. A French painter who really has some imaginative ideas and the techniques to back them up. He also seems to revel in metal finishes, rather than NMM, and this really appeals to me. Superb site, sadly all fantasy/SF. |
| 06-Aug-2006 | Haekel & Jaeckel | Another excellent French figure painting site. Why won't these people paint historicals???! Excellent tutorials as well, plus a useful Rackham to GW paint equivalence chart. |
| 06-Aug-2006 | Natalya Melnik | Not many pictures here, and they are tucked away amongst cats, holiday snaps and personal images (interesting approach), but what there are show painting of the highest standard. She seems to like photos of herself as well, often not a good idea with the bulk of mini-painters... |
| 06-Aug-2006 | Manfred Hautz | Yet more fantasy figures, but again, stunning work. Always slightly concerned that Awards come before the Galleries, but I suppose if pot hunting brings out these skills, we can let it go. This may actually be a painter with output volume (not quality!) lower than mine, which is something to be grateful for. |
| 06-Aug-2006 | Painted Horse Gallery | Make of this what you will, but I found it strangely appealing. The Bays are excellent. Make sure you drill down on each horse link to see the rest of the images. One wonders what she could do with proper horse sculpts and matt varnish. |
| 06-Aug-2006 | GMB Flags | The best in the business, one of my favourite hobby products, and the quality leap that revolutionised all sorts of things. Yes, I like 'em. There are a frightening number of flags listed here, but we could do with more pictures. |
| 06-Aug-2006 | HG Walls | No idea why I have left this one off. Not the best, but some nice buildings and terrain here. |
| 18-Jul-2006 | Elhiem Figures | A new company, spinning out from the Elhiem forum, concentrating on 20mm WWII. The figures are specialised, filling out gaps that exist in even massive 20mm selection out there. Nice stuff. |
| 18-Jul-2006 | Cyril Abbatti | I see a lot of sites with painted minaitures, but very rarely one where I think, hmm, now that is a style I really like. This is one such site. |
| 18-Jul-2006 | Anglian Miniatures | Nigel Higgins (a man with an almost great surname) is behind this new company offering 28mm Spanish Civil War figures, I believe with some connection to Bolt Action Miniatures (same sculptor, at least). SCW is not a period I want to game, especially in new fangled (!) 28mm, but a number of these figures will work admirably as generic, Back of Beyond type figures - especially the personalities pack. I really like 'em. Let us just say that purchases have been made. |
| 12-Jul-2006 | John Jenkins Designs | A new name to me, but instantly going straight to the top of my favourites. There are some lovely 28mm Samurai buildings here, that I simply must own. Figures too! |
| 12-Jul-2006 | Drunk Dwarves | A quirky site, with an excellent tuturial on snow covered bases. |
| 12-Jul-2006 | New Testudo | The talented artist Mr. Rava launches a range of 28mm figures. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | The Waterloo Campaign in Miniature | A newish blog focussing on a project to game a battle, but done in some style. Uniform plates, commentary and some slightly stylised but very nice figures. Well worth a visit if you like Napoleonics or figure painting. Which leaves me with a problem on where to file it... |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Sascha Herm | Winner of the Salute 2006 Painting Comp and undoubtedly a talented painter, Sascha Herm is the latest painter to display his wares. But to me these figures look sorely in need of an iron. Not too many notes, but too many creases.... Nice bases though. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Musketeer Miniatures | Now these Arab figures by a new sculptor to me should be right up my street, but they are just slightly below par at the moment. The cavalry are better than the infantry, and I am sure some will work their way into the collection. Good potential, and a wide range to come, but my powder remains dry on these. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | British Toy Soldier Company | More a bookmark for me than likely to interest you. The best of the toy soldier guardsmen I found in the 'big, expensive, glossy' category. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Scarlet and Gold | But these are the guardsmen I really like, and intend to invest in. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Armorama | Big modelling site, containing all sorts of stuff. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Black Scorpion Miniatures | A slightly random start from this new company, but all is forgiven because of the impressive Tombstone figures. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Boardgames To Go | A boardgame podcast site with some light blogging attached. If you search hard, you will find some shows featuring me waffling for England. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | Manor House Workshop | New, updated site for these terrain masters. |
| 30-Apr-2006 | The Tao of Gaming | Brian Bankler's excellent boardgames blog. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Battlegames | A new magazine launched in March 2006. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Drabant Miniatures | 40mm figures from Russia, and what a selection. Some of the best figures I have seen for years. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Wargames Etc | Excellent selection of SYW plates and lots of other good stuff. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | New York Public Libraries | Odd link, but someone has scanned a whole load of lovely uniform plates for our viewing pleasure. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Wings Palette - Aircraft Profiles | I love those side on views on aircraft camouflage patterns. There must be thousands here. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | WWII in Colour | One of my weaknesses - early colour photography to lift the b&w siege. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | MaK Forum | Almost all MaK modellers now gravitate to this forum. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | MECCG | An excellent resource site for the Middle Earth: The Wizards CCG |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Nikolai | Very nice range of 20mm accessories and figures. There are some great dioramas on this page. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Falcata | 20mm figures from Spain |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Wee Toy Soldiers | Hyun Yu's unusual and talented take on the miniature and modelling hobbies. Bloggy, but always good. |
| 28-Feb-2006 | Leuthen Project | Easily one of the best 15mm games I have ever seen, and one of the best all time. Superb. |
| Reference Sites | ||
| ludeme.com | My other site that includes much of my boardgame writing. Links back to here in a sort of infinite spatial paradox loop. | |
| Newark Irregulars | The reason my list is so short is that you can go here for the best set of links I know. It will take you hours of surfing to get through this lot, without even thinking about secondary links, and the choice is first rate. A stunning piece of work, one can only imagine the hours of effort that went into this indispensable resource. | |
| TableTop Gaming News | ||
| The Miniatures Page | The famous site maintained by Bill Armintrout. Rapidly becoming infamous. | |
| Battlegames.co.uk | Henry Hyde's up and coming site. Very UK centric (which is good) and well worth your support. | |
| Scale Model Index | Tony Matteliano runs this amazing resource, clearly more related to the modelling side of the hobby, but with hundreds of useful links. | |
| Total Model | A brand new portal site with an interesting mix of models, miniature features, and news. Superbly presented and if the content keeps coming, a sure winner. | |
| MagWeb | Basically, an on-line magazine library covering miniatures, boardgaming, history and modelling subjects. Around 100 titles are covered. An impressive resource, albeit with a small membership fee, which is well worth it. | |
| GW Gateway | An interesting portal leading to all sorts of unusual sites. | |
| Ed's Hobby Hovel | An old site (if there can be such a thing on the Web) which still contains loads of information and links. | |
| ConsimWorld | A massive discussion board with hundreds of subjects, a news resource, on-line company support and even some reviews. Emphasis on boardgames, but history and miniatures feature. Excellent site, and a daily visit for me. | |
| Wargames Forum | Lots of interesting articles and features here, including a growing, actively updated news section. | |
| Histofigs | A huge resource focussing on the very active French hobby, but there is plenty here for everyone, including flags and uniform info. | |
| Miniature Wargaming | Tons of stuff here, with a nice F/SFF slant to balance out the historicals. | |
| Wargames Review | An unusual take on, well, almost everything really. Some excellent articles, plenty of controversy, and (unusual for the web and the hobby) lots of decent reviews. | |
| The Little Grenadier | A new site from Gary Chalk, featuring an online shop and also a web magazine. Initial articles looking good, and you've gotta love that logo. [DEAD LINK. SITE CLOSED.] | |
| Lead Addict | At last, a decent web magazine. Check it out, I think you'll like what you see. Can he keep it up? [No!] | |
| Blogs | Frequently updated personal news sites. Low on colour, high on content. Quality varies! You are going to be seeing quite a few of these... | |

| The League of Augsburg | An inspirational website that really serves to highlight how few such quality resources are available. My only complaint is that it is not ten times bigger and updated weekly. One of my favourite sites. | |
| David Imrie | League of Augsburg member David Imrie's new site. Further comment is superfluous! | |
| Phil Olley's War Cabinet | League of Augsburg co-founder Phil Olley has now also added his own personal slant to web design. Excellent pictures of Phil's enviable collection, including his inspirational Sassanids. Phil also promises frequent articles on the hobby, AAR's, painting or anything that crosses his mind. Check out the retro gaming section - very cool. | |
| Joe Videki | Another superb brushman. If I ever paint a figure as well as any of those on show here, I will be a happy man. The gallery pictures speak for themselves - the Foundry Frank is hard to believe, as is the base - and there is even a workbench shot, always a plus! Excellent links too, many of which are borrowed for here. | |
| Steve Dean | One of my top five favourite painters, and with a fair wind and a good subject, the very best. This is Steve's commercial site, and has hundreds of great images to inspire we mere mortals. | |
| Brian
Phillips Figure Painting |
Brian is one of the talented group of painters from North of the Border. | |
| Frothers | Formerly a site discussing only unpainted lead, the Frothers (en route to world domination) now have a painting forum. Should be good, and mind your language. | |
| Quindia Studios | Great new site! Lots of pictures, superb layout and an interesting mix of subjects with much more to come. I like it all, but I like the superheroes best. Highly recommended. | |
| Back of Beyond Times | A very clever site indeed, and very good quality painting as well - check out the Romanovs for starters. When Herr Bews gets more pulp figures painted, he will be dangerous. A challenge to maintain this one, but what is there is more than good enough. I love the Arctic survey team. See also link below. | |
| WitchHunter | This is a link from Back of Beyond Times which basically shows Alex Bews's entire collection of figures, of all themes. Prolific eh? He has the knack for making even poor figures look passable. And the good ones, well, you can see for yourself. | |
| Agis Neugebauer | Another talented German painter, who covers a range of subjects with great competence and a very clean style. Great galleries. | |
| Fantasy Miniatures | Holger Schmidt's excellent gallery. Despite the title, some historicals are starting to appear. | |
| Figurine Painters | A bit sparse so far, but a promising start. | |
| Flames of War | Difficult to know where to put this one, like Elheim, as it covers a lot of areas including its own rule set. But the painting is great, so it goes here. Look out for the tutorials - camouflage smocks? No problem. | |
| Wargamer's Tavern | Matt Pavone's impressive new site. Contains an excellent gallery section, and period specific commentary - a great idea that I will happily borrow soon. Well worth a visit to the best new site to come along for a while. | |
| The Iron Brigade | Another worryingly small group of gamers who nevertheless turn out excellent work, in volume. The Iron Brigade is just three men and a cantiniere strong, but put on some superb games around the Northern shows. A nicely designed site too - what are you waiting for? | |
| The Kapiti Fusiliers | Great club site, full of well painted troop pics. Excellent links too. | |
| Tricorne | Eric Veitl's excellent site, featuring his 18th century models. | |
| Verzani Productions | A largely commercial site, but if you like the bright and bold fantasy style, you will not be disappointed here. | |
| Roly Hermans | A one man website industry. Roly designs a site for each period he covers, which lead me to think he only did SYW. How wrong can you be..... | |
| Frédéric Machu | You'll need a little French here, but even pressing random links will still turn up some very nice figures. Superb site. | |
| Cool Mini Or Not? | Warning! This site can be a huge drain on time. A great idea, based on the sites where the public vote (with brutal honesty) on your girl or boy friend, now transferred to miniatures. Plenty of amazing figures, scads of average ones, and a growing number of historical subjects. | |
| Crappy Mini or Not? | The miniatures equivalent of Changing Rooms. Take one of those old Bring & Buy figures covered in green glossy snot, and give it a facelift. Some remarkable transformations. | |
| Miniwars.com | A big site that had escaped my attention. Nice galleries and plenty of information. | |
| London Gamers | Lovely site, mad club, loads of pictures of Gripping Beast and other figures. | |
| Jennifer Haley | One of the best painters I have found (so far) on the web. Amazing work, and colour sense to die for. If only she had a taste for historical figures.... | |
| Shaping Middle Earth | A nice site concentrating on dioramas made from Mithril miniatures. | |
| True Believers | A lovely little miniatures site. Very much in tune with my interests, and beautifully presented. | |
| Newark Painting | A small but high quality site showing off the owner's collection of miniatures. | |
| Par Toutatis | A very good looking French site with some interesting stuff if you dig deep. The Galleries are outstanding. English version coming soon. | |
| Imaginate | A new site with a wealth of painting tips. | |
| Vallejo Paints | While it would be improper for me to claim sole credit, I helped introduce the wonderful Model Colour paints to the UK and US hobbies. I use them almost exclusively now. Check out the Model Air range if you airbrush and the new Game Color range which will appear strangely familiar. | |
| Painting With Vallejos | Although aimed at larger scale figures, there are some very good tips here. There is also a paint recipe chart for three shade effects. | |
| The Jenova Project | A Danish fantasy figure painter with an unusual style, which I rather like. Excellent tutorials and a large gallery. She hates historicals, so naturally I see this as a challenge! I have already planted a link, and expect to commence mining operations soon. | |
| Brush Strokes | One of the best painting services in the UK, a very talented exponent of the Dallimore School. | |
| Kevin Dallimore | As the pioneer of the black undercoat style, the man with a lot to answer for! Even a brief tour through this site will show you why Mr Dallimore and Special Forces represent many people's idea of The Best. | |
| The Mad Scotsman | Dallimore School. Bloody talented. Next. | |
| Ares Painting (aka Andrew Taylor) | Dallimore School. Bloody talented. Next. | |
| Spencer Keen | Dallimore School. Bloody talented. Next. | |
| Tony Harwood | I really like this site. Right up my street. Excellent scratchbuilt models. Look for more from Tony soon. | |
| Napoleonic Wargaming Gallery | Exactly what it says on the tin. Loads of great pictures of Napoleonics. The sort of thing I would have done if I had enough painted troops! | |
| Elheim 20mm | An outstanding site, discovered only recently. 20mm WWII is the exclusive focus, and there is work here of a very high standard in the galleries. Difficult to know where to put this one as it covers many areas. | |
| The General's Review | My sort of webpage. Shaun Bryant, Ian Smith and friends have put together a site that has no pretensions beyond being a showcase for top quality figures. No painting tips (though these are prmoised), just inspirational images, showing the sort of collections that sadly rarely or never leave home. They are also blazing the trail in 40mm gaming, which is hot at the moment. You will find ancients, medievals, LOTR, ACW and lots of Napoleonics here from some of the leading lights of the Northern UK hobby. Highly recommended and it should grow steadily into a huge resource. | |
| Jakob Rune Neilsen | An extremely talented painter of fantasy subjects, if somewhat full of himself. Perhaps in this case it is justifiable, or it may simply be language and the prices commanded generating the hubris. Either way, have a good long look at these wonderful figures. Lots of good tips too, including his masterful metallic effects. And along with Joe Videki, he makes the best bases I have seen. | |
| Grey Goat | Fantasy figures in the main, painted to a high standard. | |
| Dragon Miniatures | Again, all fantasy, and some very nice paintjobs. | |
| Putty & Paint | Sculpting and painting. A very good standard, but not the best. | |
| minigrrrl.com | Tammy Haye's site. One of the best exponents of the 'Eavy Metal style. And prices to match! Good tips. | |
| Jason Richards | Remarkable technique on show here, most unusual. | |
| Mayne Thiele | Another fantasy painter of exceptional skill. | |
| The Lone Brushman | Fantasy only, but painting skills that are not to be sniffed at. | |
| Paintfront | A very nice site showing AB 15mm Napoleonics. These figures have such a tug for me. Must resist... | |
| Richard Poisson | Every year when I go to the Paris modelling show, there is a superb display of Mithril figures. Richard Poisson painted many of them, I am still searching for pictures of the rest. | |
| Victoria Lamb | This painter came to my attention with her "Rescue of Sister Joan", and here is more work of the same quality. | |
| TW Figurines (Tom Weiss) | It came out of nowhere, and is already one of the best painting sites on the web. Absolute top quality figures, and photography to match. Historical, SF and fantasy, all superbly executed in a refined black undercoat style. Highly recommended. | |
| Land of the Diminutive | Nice site, with a painting style I can relate to and perhaps aspire to one day. | |
| Back Burner | ||
| Rebel Yell | Bob Kiff has one of the best value/quality combinations in the painting service world. These are figures you can be proud of at prices that will not cause heartburn. | |
| Rackham Forums (Eng) | Tons of excellent stuff here, from basing to NMM effects. And no need for O Level French. | |
| Tincture Adept | Excellent brushwork, interesting bases. | |
| Terrain | Includes terrain builders, sites with tips, and anything with grass on it. | |
| Architectural Miniatures | See below under manufacturers. | |
| Paper Creek | See below under manufacturers. | |
